Traditional Chinese medicine has used the antlers, tail, and other deer parts for thousands of years. Recently, farm-raised deer meat is also becoming more popular. The United States and New Zealand are the leading countries currently domesticating the deer.

Yogic Anatomy
Just as traditional chinese medicine is based on certain central principles and the flow of energies, yoga works with the energies in the body to restore systemic balance and enhance vitality. The main life-force energy in yoga is called prana. The prana flows through seven major energetic centers, known as the chakras (literally translated as wheels), and through many smaller channels, called nadis. The seven chakras have physical, emotional, and spiritual properties. The chakras spin clockwise when flowing properly. |

Today we know that traditional chinese medicine offers many practical and long proven safe remedies to some of our most common ailments. Over the last generation, we've seen a number of these practices gain widespread respect in the West for the benefits they offer everyone the world over. Chinese physicians' work on nutrition plays an important role in Chinese medicine, and we're seeing a growing number of independent clinical studies back up their claims. In addition, we're routinely discovering new uses for TCM that would surprise even an ancient practitioner. |

Although the concepts are totally different from Western medicine, traditional chinese medicine has significant success in managing hyperthyroidism through a variety of herbs, in which TSH levels can be increased successfully.
Ayurvedic Medicine
Ayurvedic medicine interprets the hyperthyroid symptoms of nervousness, hypersensitivity to heat, palpitations, fatigue, increased appetite, and weight loss as caused by an imbalance of all three doshas, especially the pitta (fire doshas). The main herbs used are kanchanar guggul, triphala, and trikatu. |

This may be why Asian ginseng is commonly used in traditional chinese medicine to treat diabetes. In animal research, it has been shown to increase the number of insulin receptors, and recent studies showed that even nondiabetics taking American ginseng before eating had less elevated blood sugar readings after they ate.
Siberian ginseng might be worth a try if you're fatigued, or try American ginseng if you're concerned about your blood sugar. Alternatively, you can get the more stimulating Panax type, also known as Chinese or Korean ginseng. |

Sunfood approach. Special information involving individualizing diets based on ayurvedic and yin/yang balancing insights is beyond the scope of this book. In the same way, diet systems such as ayurveda (from India), traditional chinese medicine (and its macrobiotic offshoot) only allow human health to proceed to a certain level, and no further. The ancient systems have been dulled down over many thousands of years and no longer contain real vitality; the purpose of these systems was to help the average person reach good health. The purpose of The Sunfood Diet Success System is to help an average person become an extraordinary human being who experiences superior health, who encounters the highest forms of life and who unlocks dormant powers. |

They'll go over there and try to discredit traditional chinese medicine, and they will try to discredit herbs and acupuncture, just like they've done here in the US. They will create a market where they force people to have only one option for treating diseases or symptoms: prescription drugs.
The same scam worked here in the US. They convinced most people that drugs are the answer, even doctors, who are smart people. Why not try it in Asia as well? I'm sure they will. They're doing it already. |

The most commonly used drugs for clinical application in traditional chinese medicine are Artemisia annua (herb), Cynachi (root), Lycii (bark), and Stellariae (root).
PURGATIVE DRUGS
Purgative drugs either stimulate or lubricate the large intestine to promote bowel movement. These drugs are mainly indicated Tor constipation; their function is purgation. Through the function, impacted feces and fluid remaining in the intestines are discharged, pathogenic heat or cold is dispelled, and edema is relieved. The drugs are divided into three subgroups as follows. |

Also referred to as Huang Qi in traditional chinese medicine, astragalus is well indicated in young people as an energy tonic that helps to tonify the Wei qi, which helps to protect the body from "External Pernicious Influences." This seems to correspond with our modern Western view of this herb as an immune tonic. Astragalus may not be well indicated for acute illness because it "locks the gates," not allowing entrance or exit from the body, although this view is certainly not held by all herbalists.
Adrenal Support: Astragalus is a warming and sweet herb. |

In the recent book, Practical traditional chinese medicine and Pharmacology Clinical Experiences, formulas are presented for treatment of hyperthyroidism according to differential diagnosis: all five of the listed formulas contained seaweeds or seashells or both. Thus, current thinking about hyperthyroidism emphasizes these materials. Oyster shell and other shells not only resolve masses, but also help to calm liver wind, thought to be responsible for some hyperthyroid symptoms, such as trembling, and they astringe excessive perspiration, another common symptom. |

The seeds are also applied topically for skin swellings caused by sprains and fractures, and for sores that are slow to heal.

In traditional chinese medicine terms, meat has been essential to build energy and healthy blood.
In more Westernized cultures, the ability to afford beef has been indicative of a person's affluence and good fortune. Interestingly, beef is a relative newcomer to the United States, for before the 1500s there was no known beef in the Western Hemisphere. The Spanish settlers were the first to bring cows to the hemisphere, taking them along to Central and South America. Later, colonists brought the livestock to North America.

Considerations
Q According to traditional chinese medicine, avoiding raw foods, cold drinks, and fatty foods helps to prevent water retention.
Q Food allergy testing is recommended. (See allergies in Part Two.)
Q See also under pregnancy-related problems in Part Two. EMPHYSEMA
Emphysema is a degenerative lung disease that usually develops after many years of exposure to cigarette smoke or other toxins that pollute the air. It is one of a group of lung diseases referred to as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). |
Herbs used in traditional chinese medicine that are helpful in alleviating symptoms include magnolia flower (Magnolia liliflora, also known as xho yi hua), Scutellaria (Scutellaria baicalensis, or huang qin; also known as Baikal skullcap), trichosanth (Trichosanthes kirilozvii), and wild angelica (Angelica dahurica, or bai zhi).
Q Bathing your legs or other affected area in white oak bark herb tea three times a day helps to stimulate blood flow. Simmer (but do not boil) a strong tea and use the tea to make compresses. Apply the compresses to affected areas. |
Trichosanth (Trichosanthes kirilowii) has been used for centuries in traditional chinese medicine to benefit the respiratory system.
• Wild angelica (Angelica dahurica, also known as aka bai zhi) is particularly useful for clearing sinus problems. It has been found to help relieve discomfort around the eyes that occurs when the sinuses above the eyes are blocked. It normalizes swelling, opens nasal passages, and promotes the discharge of pus often associated with sinus infections. Another important action of this herb is the balancing of histamine levels. |
If you are interested in exploring traditional chinese medicine, we suggest that you work with a qualified practitioner of Oriental medicine, certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) rather than simply buying Chinese remedies on your own. The NCCAOM can help you to locate a qualified practitioner in your area. (See Health and Medical Organizations in the Appendix.) Many of the over-the-counter remedies that are available are not actually traditional and/or may be adulterated.

These are all systemic failures that would be much better treated with traditional chinese medicine (TCM) or some other holistic modality that looks at the whole patient, not just isolated organs. Western medicine consistently makes the mistake of thinking the human body is nothing but an assembly of isolated parts.
Drugs are simply not the answer to system-wide health problems. Last time I checked, cancer wasn't caused by a lack of chemotherapy. Depression wasn't caused by a lack of antidepressant drugs. Heart disease wasn't caused by a lack of cholesterol drugs. |

I'm talking about traditional chinese medicine, Western herbs, Ayurvedic medicine, acupuncture, massage therapy, homeopathy and other modalities in the alternative medicine realm. Organized medicine says "Those aren't proven -- only our stuff is proven. Your stuff is not proven." But of course, all their stuff is the circular reasoning I was talking about. They dismiss everything outside of the corrupt system that generates profits for them.
Organized medicine is a lot like a cult
You see, scientific medicine is whatever the high priests of organized medicine deem it to be. |

What is traditional chinese medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the traditional medicine system of China, developed from its ancient beginnings in shamanistic medicine. |

How come we are not hearing about the hundreds of thousands of people in China and India who are given herbs and using ayurvedic medicine, or herbal medicine, or traditional chinese medicine and being cured of all their diseases without drugs or surgery of any kind? How come we are not hearing the stories of the millions of people throughout South America who are using plants and traditional Amazon medicine and curing their diseases without any pharmaceutical drugs or surgery? Again, there absolutely is a place for drugs and surgery. |

Chinese herbs are very powerful and should be used under the advice of a healer trained in traditional chinese medicine. There are more than 5,000 herbs in the Chinese pharmacopeia, many of them unknown to Western practitioners. Along with commonly known herbals, such as astragalus (which enhances immune function) and reishi (the mushroom of immortality), traditional Chinese remedies that have been becoming more widely available in the United States include cordyceps and velvet antler (also sometimes called antler velvet). |

We saw that with Ephedra, which is the "ma huang" herb used in traditional chinese medicine. This herb has been used safely for thousands of years, and yet the FDA banned it as an isolated phytochemical even though the very same compound remains perfectly legal in the over-the-counter medicine called Sudafed.
The FDA claims to have banned Ephedra, but that's not what actually happened. All it did was ban the Ephedra herb, not the Ephedra molecule. |

Educate yourself. You can transform your health one step at a time, one day at a time, starting with this very day, right now.
Because as I learned from the Expo West trade show, it's no longer an issue of not having access to health-enhancing products. All those products exist right now -- the very products that can prevent and even help reverse serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis and many more. |
