What else you should know: Several different species of herbs are called ginseng, and all of them function as "adaptogens," or substances that help people adapt to stressful situations. Adaptogens are useful, but it's important to find other long-term ways of reducing stress in your life. When we're chronically stressed, our memory often becomes worse. High levels of the stress hormone Cortisol interfere with memory and the production of new brain cells. Ginseng supplements can buffer some of that stress, at least temporarily.

Forty-four (12.0%) said they used ephedra for a variety of reasons: 23 to boost energy; 20 for weight loss; 10 as a decongestant; 7 for asthma. Over half rated the ephedra effective or very effective (Harnack et ai, 2001). Discussions of the safety and effectiveness of the herb ephedra are usually based on scientific research conducted on the isolated (sometimes synthesized) alkaloids in the herb (i.e., ephedrine and pseudoephedrine or their related isomers; see Chemistry section below). Both are approved by the U.S.

Doctors still fail to recognize healing power of foods, nutrition and supplements

Food, herbs and supplements are our best medicine. The healthiest people in our society already know that. But sadly, most doctors still do not. It's as if they were attempting to create French cuisine but only had the experience of microwaving a bowl of macaroni and cheese. They don't know the recipe for genuine health, and the results that have been achieved by conventional medicine clearly demonstrate this: plagues aside, the U.S. population remains the single most chronically diseased population ever observed in the history of humankind.

It's a mix of valerian, Jamaican dogwood, Sun Theanine and wild lettuce -- and a number of other excellent herbs that work very well for sleep. Anybody with insomnia can take one to four of these at bedtime and it's excellent. I do want to note one thing about theanine, which comes from green tea. It is the only nutrient that has been shown to increase deep sleep -- and there are very few medications that have been shown to do this. Sun Theanine -- and it needs to be the Sun Theanine form, not the regular theanine -- has been shown to increase deep sleep.

But they sure love to "manage" disease with expensive drugs or surgical procedures, all while pretending that foods, herbs and nutritional supplements have absolutely no medicinal value whatsoever. In time, even medicine will be forced to acknowledge the healing properties of foods and plants, but until that happens, it's up to you to stay ahead of the curve and inform yourself about the miraculous medicines provided by nature.

It contains several key B vitamins, plus amino acids and herbs. Follow the label directions for use. SAMe. The body makes S-adenosylmethionine from B vitamins and the amino acid methionine and then puts SAMe to use in making serotonin and other neurotransmitters. As supplements go, SAMe is fairly expensive, but it may boost the effectiveness of B vitamins. By itself, SAMe often works as well as some antidepressant medications, such as imipramine, but it also enhances the benefits of medications in treating major depression (the most severe type). Take 800 to 1,600 mg daily.

Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring estrogenic compounds that are found in a variety of herbs of and spices, such as red clover, black cohosh, chasteberry, and dong quai. Some of the strongest phytoestrogen-containing foods are soy products, including soybeans, soy milk, tofu, tempeh, textured vegetable protein, roasted soybeans, soy granules, miso, and edamame. Although their chemical structure resembles estrogen, it is much less powerful than human estrogen; in fact, its effectiveness is just a thousandth of human estrogen's effectiveness.

Additionally, cleanse the liver and kidneys, and drink tea made from liver herbs (see above recipe) for 10 days after replacing a filling. 21. Bring Balance to Your Emotional Health On a deeper level, every physically manifested ailment is an imbal-anced emotion. Emotions are signals of comfort or discomfort that our body sends us at every moment of our conscious existence. They contain specific vibrations that serve as a kind of weather report, telling us how we feel about ourselves, about others, and about what is "good" or "bad," "right" or "wrong," both in our lives and in our world.
These herbs are prepared as a tincture. They are more commonly known as Chinese Bitters. (See Suppliers List in the Appendix.) The proper dosage for this tincture is Vi to 1 teaspoon-ful once daily on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before breakfast. This regimen should be followed for three weeks before drinking the apple juice (or using the other alternatives discussed in the previous section).
The following herbs, when taken daily for a period of twenty to thirty days, can help to dissolve and eliminate all types of kidney stones, including uric acid, oxalic acid, phosphate, and amino acid stones. If you have a history of kidney stones, you may need to repeat this cleanse a few times, at intervals of six weeks. Ingredients: Marjoram (1 oz.) Cat's claw (1 oz.) Comfrey root (1 oz.) Fennel seed (2 oz.) Chicory herb (2 oz.) Uva ursi (2 oz.) Hydrangea root (2 oz.) Gravel root (2 oz.) Marshmallow root (2 oz.) Golden rod herb (2 oz.
If you forget to soak the herbs in the evening, boil the mixture in the morning, and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes before straining. Drink a few sips at a time in 6 to 8 portions throughout the day. This tea does not need to be taken warm or hot, but do not refrigerate it. Also, do not add sugar or sweeteners! Leave at least one hour after eating before taking your next sips. Repeat this procedure for twenty days.

Tyranny in the USA: The true history of FDA raids on healers, vitamin shops and supplement companies

Items seized in the raids included vitamins, minerals, herbs, and nutritional supplements. IRS officials also seized computers, automobiles, and bank accounts. The U.S. Postal Service illegally blocked the mail of some of the targeted companies, denying them the ability to conduct business or even organize a legal defense. Targeted products included Dr. Kurt Donsbach's nutritional products and Dr. Hans Neiper's German-made health products.

New FDA guidelines threaten religious freedoms; Holy water could be regulated as "drugs" and rosaries as "medical devices"

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
The FDA recently declared war on natural medicine, and it went way beyond herbs and vitamins in naming things to regulate as drugs or medical devices. The agency is now targeting "energy medicine" and stating that any physical objects used in the practice of energy medicine will be regulated as medical devices. That is, unless the therapy in question is completely useless and has no effect on patients, in which case it will be happily allowed. The FDA's ultimate game plan? Force everyone to rely on dangerous prescription medications by eliminating the competition.
The FDA, seeing that these churches are actually healing people with herbs, oils, homeopathy or functional foods, will target the churches and seek to shut them down. And when that happens, there's nothing that will stop this out-of-control federal agency from utterly destroying religious freedom and trapping the U.S. population under a medical monopoly dominated by FDA mafia bosses. God save us from the FDA. Because God is the next target. If you believe in religious freedom, then you cannot simultaneously support the FDA.
The agency now controls your foods, beverages, cosmetics, medicines, herbs, functional foods, superfoods, and potentially even your religious practices. The fact that you are allowed to participate in religious services in the church of your choice this coming weekend is only allowed by the grace of the FDA. And if the FDA changes its mind, religious services involving water, oils, symbols, foods or beverages could one day be outlawed, with National Guard troops stationed outside churches all across the country, barring entry into these "crime scenes" where "unapproved medicine" was being used.

If you are looking for herbs to alleviate a cold, first determine what energy the diaphoretic should be: cool, warm or neutral. Then decide what additional effects are needed. If there is a cold with a fever, choose a diaphoretic which lowers fevers; if there is tension, spasms or a tight neck and shoulders, choose one which is antispasmodic; or if the cold is accompanied by poor digestion, gas, bloatedness or stomachache, select one which is carminative. This is fine-tuning your herbal selection and leads to a deeper knowledge of each herb's personality and abilities.
