Take ample amounts of the probiotic bifidobacterium infantis through rectal implants (either through enemas or have your colon hydrotherapist do the implant). Bifidobacterium infantis is found in breast-fed infants, and is probably the most basic of all intestinal bacteria in the human species. Be sure to have your colon hydrotherapist provide you with an implant of bifidus bacteria following each session.

While this is an admirable objective, it cannot be achieved overnight, given the complexities of the herbs themselves, the variety of formulas and prescribing methods available and the difficulties in adapting medical models to the herbal practice.
Indeed there are many inside the medical establishment who question the validity of double-blind controlled trials and
'evidence-based medicine' in general (e.g. Black 1996; Vincent and Furnham 1999). |

Whole food supplements include chorella, blue-green algae, spirulina, royal jelly, and other types of concentrated whole herbs, plants, dehydrated juices, and/or sprouts. Remember your body is deficient in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and various cofactors. This is the fact. There is no way that you can get all the nutrients you need by eating food. You would have to eat ten to twenty times the amount of food as you are now, and it would all have to be organic for you to meet your minimum nutritional needs. Nutritional deficiencies cause disease. |
Sure, ideally you would buy only organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, beef, chicken, lamb, eggs, butter, milk, cream, cheese, herbs and spices, and make everything in your house from scratch. Sure, ideally you would eat a majority of live raw food, not cooking it and destroying the natural livings enzymes. But, realistically, most people could never do that.
So is it a lost cause, or is there something you can do to eat food that has much less toxins, much more nutrition, and not been energetically altered? The answer is yes. |

When you go shopping for food, go to a farmer's market and buy organic fruits and vegetables, herbs and spices from small independent growers that you can talk to, meet and feel confident that what you are eating is good for you. You can plant your own herb garden or small vegetable garden. Remember, do not use hybrid seeds because that's a nice way of saying "genetically altered by man."
The most convenient way to shop for food is go to your local whole food or natural health food type store. |
So, the general rule of thumb is to do all your shopping at a local farmers market and make sure that all of your fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds are 100-percent organic and raw. When purchasing other food products, avoid the supermarket at all costs and buy your food products from your local health food or whole food type store. If the product is manufactured by a large, publicly traded corporation, or is a well-known brand name, avoid it. Lastly and most importantly, whenever you buy anything, read the ingredients.

Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine seeks to restore the body's balance, chiefly through the use of acupuncture and herbs. One study found that acupuncture significantly improved symptoms in patients with depression or anxiety (Eich et al. 2000). Another study found that patients who received acupuncture plus an antidepressant improved more than those who received only the drug (Roschke et al. 2000).

How Food Heals
Introduction
Healers around the world have used food and herbs as medicine for centuries. Much of the global population still depends on the plant kingdom as their main source of medicine. It is only recently however, that scientific research has determined more precisely how it is that nature works in tandem with the body to fight disease.
Articles in health-related publications and even daily newspapers now speak regularly about antioxidants and free radicals. You have probably gotten the basic idea that antioxidants are good and free radicals are bad. |

In The Healing Power of herbs, Dr. Michael Murray states that oral administration of bilberry reduced blood glucose levels in normal and depancreatized dogs, even when glucose was simultaneously injected (Murray 1995). Italian researchers reported that bilberry consistently decreased blood glucose levels by 26% and triglycerides by 39% in animal models (Cignarella et al. 1996).
Myrtillin appears the most active antidiabetic component in bilberry. An injection of myrtillin, although somewhat weaker than insulin, can be used without threat of toxicity, even at 50 times the recommended dose. |

Cilantro
Coriandrum sativum is a European herb in the parsley family. The leaves are cilantro (also Chinese parsley) and the fruit is coriander. Cilantro leaves are commonly used as a seasoning herb. However, dried coriander seeds have an entirely different flavor than the leaves and are used as a spice. Coriander stimulates appetite, helps increase secretion of gastric juices, and aids the digestive system. |

CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Health Concepts
While conducting the research for this book, I've become more and more overwhelmed by the staggering dependence our society and medical community places on prescription medication, over-the-counter drugs, and herbs. Few of us seriously consider the poor lifestyle habits that may be the underlying cause of the problem.
Excessive weight may account for painful knees, aching hips, high blood pressure, diabetes, increases in acid reflux symptoms, and fatigue. Smoking causes increased risks in high blood pressure, heart disease, emphysema, and lung cancer. |
Above all, know that when you choose to start taking an herb or group of herbs, you are actually using drugs. Respect this truth and have the courage to inform your doctor of everything you are taking. |
Who is making you aware that when you combine either of these herbs with a prescription sedative, the combination may cause increased sedation and can lead to more serious problems than when you use the drugs separately?18
The use of hawthorn and the drug digoxin (digitalis) has also brought about concern. They have similar pharmaceutical effects on the heart and can potentially lead to complications when used together.19 Licorice can also accentuate the loss of potassium when combined with common prescription diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide, Lasix, and Bumex. |
The German Federal Health Agency has established regulations on the amount of pyrrolizidine alkaloids that their manufacturers may place in these herbs. Germany, however, does require quality control and so actually regulates these amounts. In the United States, we really do not have a clue how many pyrrolizidine alkaloids are in our products.
Other products are also of concern. Researchers have found that the safrole in sassafras (Sassafras albidum) and cis-isoasarone in calamus (Acorns calamus) have carcinogenic potential in animals in U.S. studies. |
Studies reveal that three out of four patients will not communicate to their doctors that they are taking an herb or group of herbs.14
The best illustration of this point is St. John's wort. Many people take St. John's wort to treat their depression, because it works similarly to the antidepressants physicians prescribe, such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, and Effexor. As I've said before, patients are self-medicating and self-treating more now than ever before. Only when their symptoms do not improve do they typically consult their physician. |

How Do You Verify a Chemical Sensitivity Medically and Legally?4" 32

Substances containing mint or menthol, or the oils of eucalyptus, rosemary, pennyroyal, or other strong-smelling herbs also are best avoided, as are mouthwashes, cough drops, and the like.
If, for some reason, you do drink coffee or have contact with camphor or the like, you should continue treatment according to the guidelines in the following section, if no obvious changes in the symptoms occur. Since these substances do not always antidote homeopathic medicines, do not assume that they have created any problems unless you personally experience them. |

The following section, the Therapeutic Section, highlights nutrients and herbs that have won favor as antidiabetic agents. For example, the Helicon Foundation announced in 2000 that it may be possible to address dysfunctions that conspire to maintain hyperglycemia in Type II diabetes by ingesting specific supplemental nutrients such as chromium (for skeletal muscle insulin resistance), conjugated linoleic acid (for adipocyte insulin resistance), biotin (for excessive hepatic glucose output), and coenzyme Qiq (for beta cell function) (McCarty 1999, 2000). |

While the amounts of spices and herbs in a single meal may not have a substantial anti-inflammatory effect, they enhance an antiinflammatory dietary regimen.
If you enjoy a pungent kick with some of your foods, substitute a little cayenne powder for black pepper (unless you are allergic to nightshades—see step 8). Cayenne contains substances that block the transmission of pain between nerve cells.
