On the other hand, stevia's many supporters, which include the American herbal products Association, Herb Research Foundation, and the American Botanical Council, as well as integrative physicians and nutritionists, are quick to point out that stevia has been consumed safely by humans for centuries in South Korea, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, and Japan, with no known complaints. Over the years, those who've spoken out in favor of stevia include Julian Whitaker, M.D., Dr. Andrew Weil, the late Dr. Atkins, Dr. Ann-Louise Gittleman, Dr. Joseph Mercola, Dr.

In the United States, herbal products are marketed under the provisions of the Dietary Supplement ¦ Side Effects Index: In this index, you'll find a list of all herbs associated with a given adverse reaction. Herbs are listed alphabetically by accepted common name, with the scientific name and page number appended. Nomenclature employed in the side effect headings matches that used in the PDR Side Effects Index, another feature of the PDR Guide to Drug Interactions, Side Effects, and Indications and the PDR Electronic Library CD-ROM.

Product review: Power Immune anti-viral tincture from Fitura

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

The only thing better than stocking up on these herbal products, by the way, is growing the herbs yourself. And I recommend you do that. Fresh herbs right out of the garden are always superior to anything in a bottle, so if you have a way to grow these anti-viral herbs year-round, that's the best strategy of all. The next best thing is a tincture like this one. Resources Fitura Power Immune: www.Fitura.com Herb reference site (to look up the anti-viral effects of these herbs): www.HerbReference.
Fitura's Power Immune is certainly far more potent than a lot of the herbal products found in retail, many of which are watery and seem to contain very little actual herbage. The ingredients in Power Immune are: Echinacea Purpurea Licorice Cat's Claw Green Tea Shitake Mushroom St. John's Wort Lemon Balm Olive Leaf Astragalus Ginger Garlic Onion If you'll notice, each one of these ingredients is anti-viral by itself. Cat's Claw and Green Tea also have strong anti-cancer properties. Licorice helps stabilize blood sugar, Shitake mushroom is an immunomodulator, and St.
It's certainly more potent than most of the herbal products I've seen in retail, but it's not as potent as products from companies like Baseline Nutritionals, which has the most potent herbal tincture products I've ever tasted. Of course, when the potency goes up, so does the cost (and the price), so here again, we're talking about a tradeoff in price vs. potency. Overall, Power Immune is a good value for what it delivers, and the product technology really works.
There are no chemical first aid products in my house; I've thrown them all out and replaced them with herbal products (or aloe vera). This Power Immune is one of my favorites. I consider it a first aid antibacterial product. Of course, it does contain alcohol (a natural part of the tincture), which means it's going to burn a bit on open wounds, but the alcohol adds yet another layer of antibacterial activity. The latest U.S. health safety distraction ploy: Blame China!

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
China's food and herbal products are so routinely contaminated with pesticides and heavy metals that high-quality supplement formulators in the United States refuse to buy products from China anymore. But the really clever part in all this is that blaming China prevents people from paying attention to the dangerous ingredients openly allowed in the U.S. food supply by the FDA. Specifically, the FDA currently allows known cancer-causing chemicals to be widely used in both foods and drugs.

I'll be writing a lot more about Amazon Herbs in the next day or two, so come back to read more about that if you want to learn about which herbs and herbal products are best at removing toxins from your liver (and restoring healthy liver function). In my opinion, there is no such thing as a cancer recovery without a healthy, functioning liver. So start with supporting the liver. Isn't it interesting to note that chemotherapy -- which is still somehow accepted as the mainstream treatment for cancer -- is extremely toxic to the liver?

While the FDA will openly tolerate useless synthetic vitamins (which are mostly made by pharmaceutical companies anyway), the rogue agency will not tolerate herbal products that actually work to cure cancer, halt diabetes, reverse heart disease or otherwise strip revenues from Big Pharma by eliminating disease. Personally, I hope you support this company just to spite the FDA. You can learn more about their bitter melon product at www.charanteausa.com Bitter melon really works to help regulate blood sugar. In my view, it works better than diabetes drugs.

Herbalists always have standardized their herbal products. St. John's wort was gathered when it was in bud or flower, and only the tops of the plants were picked. The tincture or oil of hypericum should turn a deep burgundy red and have a strong and distinctive aroma. How much hypericin is present per dose? How much hyperforin per dose? Herbalists don't know, but they do know that the preparation will be active and will work because the markers that they always have looked for are present. Herbalists have standardized their medicines to quality, not numbers.

It is difficult to estimate the market for herbal products, but the best estimates place the annual sales for 2005 in the United States around $5 billion. The global market for botanical medicines stands at more than $60 billion annually (World Health Organization, 2003) and is growing steadily. In the past fifteen years, the market for herbs has increased tenfold in the United States. There is a greater interest in complementary and alternative medicine and, as a result, in herbal medicine. Colleges and professionals are teaching herbal medicine to more people.
Rarely are herbalists consulted when studies on herbal products are designed. This is very unfortunate, because they are the authorities on the effective clinical use of these substances. Examples of research flawed by a basic lack of understanding of herbal practice abound. In the last year, we saw two studies showing that echinacea was not effective. One used a product made from the leaf juice (the root is what is usually used) that was five times more dilute than what the vast majority of American herbalists use. It was no surprise to many that the study showed no or little activity.
It is difficult, although not impossible, to patent herbal products, and without this type of legal protection, few companies are willing to invest significant amounts of money into herbal product research. When examining herbal research, the following problem areas should be kept in mind: 1. It is not uncommon for studies to be done on animals and the results extrapolated to humans, even though people may metabolize various phytochemicals quite differently than animals. 2.

The use of herbal products (commonly viewed as a component of nutrition therapy) in disease prevention and treatment is gaining in popularity. Despite the tremendous recent growth in popularity, carefully controlled studies are few. For these reasons, no discussion of this topic has been included here. However, with the development of guidelines for clinical investigation, this is an area that will expand in the future.

This legislation places herbal products in a clearly defined regulatory category of dietary supplements, along with a number of other products including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. When the DSHEA was passed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimated that there were about four thousand dietary supplements on the market. After this law was passed, the number has increased dramatically to more than thirty thousand, with more than one thousand being added each year.

Herbal Remedies If it is rare for a physician to warn people about interactions between drugs such as caffeine and Tagamet, you can imagine how unlikely it would be to get a precaution about herbal products that can interact with drugs. For one thing, few patients are likely even to share with their doctors the fact that they use herbal products. Such products are, after all, considered somewhat flaky by the medical establishment. Yet in recent years alternative remedies—including herbal products available in health food stores and through the mail—have become increasingly popular.

Heavy metals warning for ayurvedic herbs is a distraction from the real threats to your health

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
You can bet that in the ongoing campaign to discredit herbs and gain new regulatory power over them, the FDA is going to cite this study about finding heavy metals in a few imported Ayurvedic herbal products. But the agency will never tell you what I'm about to say, which is that virtually all prescription drugs contain dangerous chemical compounds they are similarly dangerous to human health. Many of the chemical compounds in prescription drugs are far more toxic than heavy metals, and yet they are allowed to be prescribed to tens of millions of Americans.
If you're going to get concerned about dangerous ingredients in our food and herbs, there are a whole lot of other places to start rather than some obscure imported herbal products. Of course, when it comes to quality control of herbal supplements, it's important to source your herbs and supplements from trusted companies who have stringent quality control standards.
REPPED: The headlines were recently ablaze with warnings about Ayurvedic herbal products. A survey of such herbal remedies sourced from India and Pakistan found that one in five of them were contaminated with dangerous levels of heavy metals like lead, mercury and arsenic. This is an important finding and worthy of discussion but, once again, the mainstream press is blowing this all out of proportion by claiming that all Ayurvedic herbal remedies are contaminated with heavy metals.

Reversing chronic disease with Amazon Herbs So you have herbal products that operate on all three levels. With that in mind, you might ask, "What can these products really do? How can they really help me?" And that's a multipart answer. My belief is that these products can actually reverse early stage cancers; they can reconfigure your nervous system; they can eliminate toxins from your system, they can boost immune system function and protect you from viruses; they can boost the antioxidant level in your tissues and circulating in your blood; they can even help reverse heart disease.

You won't find many references to such problems in standard interaction references or data bases.
