In like fashion, herbal medicines may indirectly trigger the same healing mechanisms common to specific therapies or drugs, or have a direct placebo effect through the vibrational field of the herbs. Quite beyond the electrical source of molecular life is the pattern of the organization of the body's electrical field. Subatomic physics failed to give full account of the organizational features, but quantum physics showed that macro answers cannot come from collective atomic molecular activity.

These herbal airheads are too busy cashing royalty checks to run a clinic for terminally-ill people, as I did. Major Benefit: Stops Bleeding (internal or external), Heart Attack, Stroke, or Shock. Dissolves clots. SCHULZE: I have had at least 20-30 patients over the years who have had a stroke right in my waiting room. Once I had an elderly man in my office and was giving him an iridology exam. As I was examining his eyes through a magnifying glass, I saw his blood vessels enlarge, then explode right in front of me. Then he fell to the floor with a stroke.

The Vitamin Revolution in Health Care

I usually recommend the standardized herbal extract, with a consistent 0.1-0.5% parthenolides. I suggest a 250-mg capsule twice per day. Gugulipids Gugulipids are derived from gugulow, an extract from the gugul tree, which grows only in particular areas of India. It has a long folk history in Ayurvedic medicine, and recent scientific evidence shows that it can lower total serum cholesterol levels while increasing the level of good HDL cholesterol. It has also helped with weight loss.
Many of our modern drugs were derived originally from herbal remedies. Digitalis, used in treating some heart diseases, comes from foxglove. Colchicine, a common treatment for gout, comes from colchicum, or autumn crocus. Some of the more potent medications for cancer come from common vinca plants. Most of the common herbs used in health care are very safe when used as directed, and far safer than almost any prescription medication, but it is valuable to have competent advice when using them for treatment, even if only for a proper diagnosis of the problem.
For more thorough discussions of herbal remedies, see the books listed in the Resources section. (See Appendix 2.) Herbs are not orthomolecular substances. Unlike nutrients, they contain components that are not normally present in the body. Although they are used for treatment and general toning, be aware that they are more likely than nutrients to have side effects when taken in high doses. The usual doses are quite safe, but you should not exceed them unless you are familiar with their use.
Generally, the US medical profession has been resistant to the use of herbal preparations. Supplements of milk thistle extract, standardized with 80% silymarin, are available in 150-mg capsules. Two capsules twice per day is an effective dose for liver protection and sugar improvement. For general protection, one or two capsules per day may be adequate, unless you are highly exposed to damaging environmental chemicals. Saw Palmetto The saw palmetto tree (Serenoa repens) is a small palm tree that produces reddish-brown berries that are therapeutic for prostate gland enlargement.

As a young student I used to observe a venerable Chinese herbal physician who was given to oracular, impressive pronouncements like "Ah, organs very weak, you must lie down, one month, no get up, no move, only go to bathroom and to table to eat." When people followed his advice, some would have fair to middling results, some would have trouble with spouses or jobs, and some would have very good results, because only this kind of drastic prescription would get them to slow down enough to get better. In fact, Chinese medicine is much more supportive of rest and rehabilitation.

In Canada, on the other hand, a new regulatory system in which so-called "Natural Health Products" or NHPs are being regulated separately from conventional foods and drugs, with the prospect that some reasonably appropriate claims may be made for some of these products leading to their presumably increased acceptance in clinical practice (Taller, 2003). He uses a camphor-based, nontoxic herbal product called 714-X injected intra-lymphatically that suppresses CKF and feeds the cancer with nitrogen, in effect distracting it long enough for the immune system to regain competence sufficient to destroy the cancerous entity. As of 1991, Naessens' 714-X treatment had arrested and reversed the progress of more than 1,000 cancer cases, plus a couple of dozen AIDS cases.

Interestingly enough, cinnamon has been the base ingredient in Chinese herbal medicine for hundreds of years.6 — Are you craving peppermints? That means you're feeling lethargic and want to catch your second breath of peppy energy. — Are you craving coffee candy? That means you are trying to push yourself past the point of exhaustion. Why not take a breather (or better yet, a nap)? — Are you craving peanut brittle? This signals a frustration that your life lacks fun or recreation. You're also looking for a little sympathy or comfort. — Are you craving caramel?

Glycyrrhiza glabra and Panax ginseng appear to enhance the action of Chinese thoroughwax and the three are almost always used together in traditional Chinese herbal formulas. Both licorice root and ginseng have components with anti-inflammatory activity.106 In addition, these herbs have also been shown to improve the activity of the adrenal glands. Perhaps licorice's major effect is its ability to inhibit the breakdown of adrenal hormones by the liver.
Dietary intake during the fast consisted of herbal teas, garlic, vegetable broth, decoction of potatoes and parsley, and the following juices: carrots, beets, and celery. No fruit juices were allowed. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis have historically benefited from fasting; however, strict water fasting should only be done under direct medical supervision. Fasting decreases the absorption of allergic food components as well as reducing the levels of inflammatory mediators.

The maitake is indigenous to northern Japan, where it has long been a staple of traditional herbal medicine. Its name means "dancing mushroom"—a reference to the joyful reaction of people who found it in the woods. During Japan's feudal era, maitakes could be exchanged for their weight in silver, and they remain today a valuable and costly mushroom. Their true value, as demonstrated in recent laboratory research in Japan, is that "of all mushrooms studied, maitake has the strongest activity in tumor growth inhibition,"* as one study put it.

Astragalus root is a component of many traditional Chinese herbal formulas, generally considered to be a strong tonic and resistance-builder. Contemporary studies reveal that Astragalus can increase natural killer cell activity.961 often recommend Astragalus for maintenance therapy of people with chronic or recurrent infectious diseases of any type, because of its high margin of safety. The effective dose is 250 to 500 milligrams three times a day. Astragalus may cause an increase in sweating or urination but side effects are otherwise rare. 6. Mushrooms.

It is estimated that approximately 80 percent of the world's population uses herbal medicines, many because they prefer a more gende and natural approach to treatment. Among the thousands of plants used effectively is a reddish fruit the size of a small orange from the botanical tree Garcinia cambogia. When this rind is dried and ground into powder, it has uses for many different diseases. In India, for instance, garcinia is sometimes used as a topical application for infections. It also has use as a "chewing stick" to keep teeth and gums healthy.
