So why was the herb (ephedra) banned while the drug (Sudafed) was kept on the market? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out: Because Sudafed was making lots of money for its manufacturer, a drug company. And the FDA consistently acts in favor of drug companies rather than consumers.
Hoodia is likely to suffer the same fate as ephedra. Sooner or later, somebody is going to keel over from popping a whole bottle of counterfeit hoodia pills that don't even contain real hoodia. The FDA will issue a misinformed warning statement and the press will go ape nuts crazy over it. |

Overcoming Disease
"Treat disease through diet, by preference, refraining from the use of drugs; and if you find what is required in a single herb, do not resort to a compound medicament." — Baha'u'lkh
"no matter from which angle we view health and disease, we cannot escape from being entangled in the conclusion that intractable disease is as old as cookery. Disease and cookery originated simultaneously." — Dr. Edward Howell, Enzyme Nutrition

Don't fall for the trap of trying to lose weight through dehydration and starvation, aided by an appetite suppressant herb. This can be medically dangerous. Drinking lots of water may make you feel bloated, but remember: water has no calories. Drink all you need. It won't add an ounce of fat, ever.
As always, be sure to work with a qualified health practitioner before attempting any weight loss program, exercise program, or dietary supplement (including hoodia). |

It's probably the biggest cancer-support herb being used out there. And there are definitely rainforest products as well.
Mike: And then, getting back to the anti-inflammatories, I think you're right on with the Vioxx backlash. The drug is now apparently legal to sell; the FDA has said, "This is safe enough for us." It has to kill apparently more than 60,000 people to be considered dangerous, but people are desperately searching for alternatives. What can they turn to that they can buy locally in their health food store? |

In fact, garlic has many other health benefits beyond cholesterol: the herb also fights cancer and greatly enhances immune system function.
Medicine from nature: blueberries
One of my favorite solutions for fighting cholesterol levels is eating lots of blueberries. Blueberries have now been proven to be more effective than statin drugs in reducing cholesterol levels, and yet they have absolutely no negative side effects whatsoever. You can get blueberries throughout the year if you go to the right stores. |

You can go down a list and look at the thousands of drugs that are available, and in nearly every case, there is a food, an herb, a nutritional supplement, or a lifestyle change that will work far better and eliminate the need for that drug entirely.
And yet we live in a nation that's focused on drugs, and not focused on healing foods. If we would just turn to the healing foods, we could solve this health problem and return to a national state of outstanding health, with a shocking drop in health care costs to boot. |

The fluid will need to be further separated into alcohol and water.
For the alcohol in this extract:
2250 millihters x .70 (70%) =
1575 millihters of alcohol.
For the water in this extract:
2250millilitersx.30 (30%) = 675 milliliters of water.
To check the math, add the alcohol and water together. The sum total should be 2250 milliliters.

There's rosemary, turmeric, ginger, holy basil, green tea, a Chinese medicinal herb called Hu Zhang, Chinese gold thread, barberry, oregano, and Baikal skull cap. All of these are encapsulated with extra virgin olive oil and yellow beeswax. So even the capsule itself is healthier than what you would normally find in other products.
The top three ingredients are rosemary, turmeric and ginger. What's the big deal about these three ingredients? You'll notice that these are not isolated chemicals, nor are these vitamins or minerals. |

Aloe vera is perhaps the number one first aid herb out there. You can use it for many, many things, not just for burns, although that's a great use of the product. You can even use aloe vera in wounds, and I'm talking about huge, gaping wounds. If someone has their leg sliced open, you can actually stuff that wound with aloe vera gel, put some more aloe vera on top of the wound, spray it all with silver, wrap it all in a huge bandage and then go off to the emergency room for some stitches, surgery, or whatever needs to be done. Doing so will protect the wound. |

This is what the world needs in terms of food that will protect against diabetes and that will, over time, help boost insulin sensitivity, which is the beginning of a biochemical reversal of the root causes of diabetes. |

At the same time, due to the massive harvesting effort of wild hoodia gordonii (the raping of the land, actually, for this lucrative herb), South Africa, Botswana and Namibia have classified hoodia gordonii as an endangered species. Its harvesting and exporting is now controlled and must be authorized by the government.
The real thing: a CITES certificate
In South Africa, this authorization is provided by a CITES certificate. C.I.T.E.S. stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. |

The high prevalence of counterfeit hoodia supplements sold in western countries may help explain why some hoodia users complain the herb isn't working for them. The reason is simple, it seems: they're not taking genuine hoodia gordonii.
The solution is to switch to a brand of hoodia that has been 100% authenticated as genuine, such as Desert Burn, Hoodoba, King Hoodia or Hoodia Max.
The other reason your old hoodia supplement may not work is because of the digestibility factor: many people have such poor digestion that they never absorb all the active ingredients in genuine hoodia powder. |

Should you wish to save homegrown tarragon by drying, be certain the herb is fully dried before placing it in jars for storage to prevent mold.
Dried tarragon should be kept in a tightly sealed glass container in a cool, dark, dry place, where it will remain fresh for about six months.
TIPS FOR USE
When available, fresh French tarragon is a chef's delight. Its spicy sweet flavor perks up a wide variety of dishes but is especially good with fish. |

Chamomile tea is what Mrs. Rabbit gave Peter to ease his tummyache and help him get to sleep after his mischief in Farmer Mac-Gregor's garden. (In one of her other books, Beatrix Potter suggests that lettuce can make little rabbits sleepy, though she doesn't find it affects her that way.) Chamomile has traditionally been suggested to be a very gentle sedative, but there is hardly any evidence that it would have an effect in insomnia. |

LESSON
THE SUNFOOD DIET
"And God said: Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to be your food." — Cenesk 1:29
"Kill neither men, nor beasts, nor yet the food which goes into your mouth. For if you eat living food, the same will quicken you, but if you kill your food, the dead food will kill you also. for life comes only from life, and from death comes always death. for everything which kills your foods, kills your bodies also. |

You never hear, for example, that the Tamiflu drug is actually manufactured from an ancient Chinese herb (star anise). That fact remains largely hidden from the public. People are just told it's a drug.
Similarly, people aren't informed about the antiviral potential of natural therapies. And this is potentially a fatal mistake that could cost the lives of millions around the world. Because it is nature, not synthetic drugs or modern medicine, that can save you from the bird flu virus. Nature has the answers, not your government. |

That's because it's not an herb, so there's not a knee-jerk reaction to it by traditionally trained medical doctors. Silver is based on chemistry and physics, so it has a very scientific ring to it. And Western trained doctors tend to appreciate that more. They say, "Hey, if you can show me the chemistry, and explain it in terms of physics and molecules and the ion exchange between silver and bacteria, then yeah! We'll use it."
So silver has a good, strong future in medicine. In fact, it's being used in many medical devices right now. |

These findings are spurring other research into parthenolide, including cancer prevention and treatment. Parthenolide can change the way human leukemia cells progress so that the cells are changed into normal monocytes instead of cancer. This is done by altering the NF kappaB gene signal.731
Parthenolide also helps reduce the activity of breast cancer cells and makes them more susceptible to be killed by cancer drugs. Once again, this is due to being able to lower NF kappaB. |

Schultz and his colleagues gave an extract of the herb ginkgo biloba, which is especially rich in antioxidant compounds, to laboratory mice and then compared the responses of genes in their brain cells to those of mice that had not received ginkgo. This study is significant for two reasons. First, ginkgo is widely used to improve memory, and some research shows that it may slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Also, this particular study demonstrated that ginkgo improves the activity of many different genes in brain cells. |

Birth Defects
What Happens
Birth defects result from significant alterations in DNA and genes during the growth and development of a fetus. Pregnant women who consume low levels of vitamins have an increased risk of delivering a child with some types of birth defects. |
Many of these studies have used natural vitamin E succinate, beta-carotene, and silymarin (an antioxidant extract of the herb milk thistle). In one of these studies, researchers at the AMC Cancer Research Center in Denver found that silymarin stopped the growth of breast-cancer cells just before they were about to replicate DNA for a new cancer cell. None of these nutrients has been found to cause apoptosis in healthy cells, suggesting that they have normal roles in regulating healthy DNA. |
