Vibrational Medicine: The #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Therapies

Richard Gerber, M.D.
See book keywords and concepts
The Mugwort plant has been used as a medicinal herb since ancient times for treating gout, digestive problems, skin diseases and nerve disorders. While the essences prepared from the flowers of many plants have special therapeutic properties, their effects may often differ from the herbal properties of the roots and stems. In the case of Mugwort, however, many of the herb's therapeutic effects upon nerve tissue are also shared by the flower essence. Mugwort's most beneficial effect is its ability to reintegrate the synapses and enhance communication between the individual neurons in the brain.

Alternative medicine is often practiced with the limited mindset of conventional medicine

That is, they are asking for an herb to cure their symptom. If they have pain, they want a pill that will eliminate the pain, and the only difference in this example between patients who turn to conventional medicine and patients who turn to natural medicine is that the natural patient wants a pain pill from a plant. The problem with both patients is that they fail to recognize the internal cause of their pain, or they fail to take ownership of their role in creating the disease they are currently expressing.

Living the Low Carb Life: Controlled Carbohydrate Eating for Long-Term Weight Loss

It's an herb that contains the active ingredient synephrine. Synephrine is chemically very similar to ephedrine and pseu-doephedrine and has similar effects in terms of providing an energy boost, suppressing the appetite, and increasing metabolic rate and caloric expenditure. By stimulating specific adrenergic receptors, synephrine is thought to stimulate fat metabolism without the negative cardiovascular side effects experienced by some people with ephedra, also called ma huang.
Stevia is an herb sold as a food additive, which has basically no downside except a somewhat weird aftertaste that some people don't mind at all. You can get it at any health food store. Note that the only ones you can cook with are Sweet'n Low, Sugar Twin, Sunette, and Splenda. Is Fructose Okay? No. Fructose doesn't raise blood sugar a lot, so it used to be thought of as the perfect sweetener for diabetics. Bad idea. Even though it doesn't raise blood sugar very fast, it induces insulin resistance in both animals and humans.
The new "ephedra-free" diet pills have simply replaced ephedra with bitter orange (citrus aurantium), an herb that contains the active ingredient synephrine. Synephrine is chemically very similar to ephedrine and pseu-doephedrine and has similar effects in terms of providing an energy boost, suppressing the appetite, and increasing metabolic rate and caloric expenditure. By stimulating specific adrenergic receptors, it is theorized that synephrine stimulates fat metabolism without the negative cardiovascular side effects experienced by some people with ephedra (also called ma huang).
Possibly Helpful Gymnema Sylvestre Gymnema sylvestre is an herb with an interesting double relationship to sugar. In Sanskrit, gymnema means "sugar destroyer." If you place it on the tongue, it blocks the sensation of sweetness! But if you take it internally, it seems to help control blood sugar levels, at least in diabetics. It may well turn out to have a place in the supplement regimen of those trying to control blood sugar and increase insulin sensitivity.

The FDA, Vioxx, and crimes against humanity

But here in the United States, a few individuals took it to an extreme and managed to give themselves a heart attack by overdosing on an isolated herb, so the FDA said, "It's dangerous, and we have to take it out of everyone's reach." If you were to apply the same argument to Vioxx, then the FDA should say, "Vioxx has killed not just a dozen people, nor 100 people, nor 1,000 people, nor not even 10,000 people, but perhaps as many as 50,000 to 60,000 people. Maybe that should be a drug that we take off the market because it's dangerous." But no!

Hoodia gordonii is no miracle weight loss pill, health investigation reveals

They weren't taking this herb every day like many Americans plan to. And what is the safety of this herb for pregnant women? I don't think that question has been sufficiently addressed. My own experience with hoodia In addition to my skepticism about the studies conducted on hoodia so far, my own experience with hoodia uncovers some additional questions. Naturally, I tested hoodia on myself for quite some time (several months). During that time, I carefully noted my level of hunger three times a day (rating my appetite on a scale of 1 - 10), and noted my dosage of hoodia gordonii.

FDA panel says no to over-the-counter statin drugs; will the recommendation stand?

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

If NSAIDs were, say, a Chinese herb, they would have been banned long ago, and armed FDA agents would have raided all the stores carrying inventory in order to "protect Americans." But NSAIDs remain legal for one reason only: they're profitable. As I've said before, if all the people who died from over-the-counter drugs in America were to rise from their graves and march on Washington, the demand for change would be unstoppable. But dead people don't march, and they can't tell you, "Oh by the way, I was actually killed by over-the-counter drugs.

By using this herb, people are able to reduce joint inflammation and resume a wider range of motion in their joints. To enhance the range of motion of joints in your body, you are going to have to push the envelope a little bit -- try to move those shoulders a little more and unlock those hip joints a little more, because none of these ingredients are going to do the work for you. They do, however, create a much better situation in terms of lessening the pain. They lessen the inflammation, making it easier for you to follow a body movement discipline such as Tai Chi.

Chocolate, by the way, is a medicinal herb from the rain forest. It has anti-cancer properties, believe it or not, and even though Trim Spa isn't really an anti-cancer nutritional supplement, there's no question that the small amount of cocoa in the product does enhance your immune system function and offer some protective effect against cancer, although it is probably a small effect. The more important effect is that it makes your brain feel good. It enhances your mood, and when you're trying to lose weight, you know how important this can be.

Mike: Do you know the Chinese name for that herb? Kilham: Now, what's Andrographis paniculada called in Chinese? I don't know, but andrographis is becoming more popular. Mike: Okay. Now your book is called "Hot Plants." And is this available on the market right now? Kilham: "Hot Plants" is available in bookstores. It was published by St. Martin's Press in September 2004. So, it's out and around. I always believe that the distribution of my books could be better. I think every author thinks, "Well, I should be in all of the Barnes and Nobles, not just some!

Marijuana under attack for causing memory problems, say forgetful drug researchers (satire)

Toking on the herb for decades apparently makes your memory, well, dopey. That is, if you believe the study which was based on 40 people found in a drug rehabilitation program who said they only smoked marijuana about 20 times in their entire life. Right. I've never heard of anyone checking into a rehab center after smoking pot only 20 times. And besides, if pot destroys a person's memory as researchers claim it does, how do they know these people haven't smoked pot a thousand times and just can't remember?

So it's the new premier herb as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy. It doesn't contain any hormones of its own, and it has all the building blocks of nutrition for the glands to build their own hormones. It's also super-loaded with over 60 micronutrients. Maca is 40 percent potassium, and 10 percent calcium. It's high in iron, phosphorus, magnesium, silica and zinc. Maca contains vitamins A, B, C, D, E, B12, B1, 2 and 3. It contains 18 amino acids and 20 fatty acids. So it's perhaps the strongest root on earth, with no stimulants.

Newman: Yucca is a wonderful herb. It helps the digestive tract and keeps the animal's joints free of inflammation. It helps the circulation in the body. Yucca is also a stool deodorizer. That originally was what it was used for in the pet industry, to help control the odor of stool. Mike: What about potassium iodide? Newman: It is a source of sodium. We do have inter-vitamin mineral mix, because it is very expensive to put just the propionates in there. Propionated minerals are those that are attached to amino acids, so that it is easier to digest and assimilate them.

Several clinical tests using the herb have even shown a significant improvement in people with cerebrovascular disease.346 The flavonoids found in the Ginkgo extract powerfully inhibit free-radical damage in numerous tissues and organs. But, of special interest is their ability to prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol, since this plays a key role in the atherosclerotic process. These flavonoids also have antibiotic effects as well. Another property of the Ginkgo extract is its ability to inhibit arrhythmia in heart muscle.
Probably the most extensively studied herb, Ginkgo biloba contains numerous beneficial substances, some with powerful pharmacological properties. It is an incredible substance, capable of significantly increasing blood flow through arteries in all organs and tissues, including the brain and heart muscle. It is composed of special alkaloids (ginkaloids) in combination with a multitude of antioxidant flavonoids making Ginkgo extract a very powerful tool against numerous disorders, especially those associated with degenerative aging and impaired microvessel blood flow.
One of the most useful is the herb, Ginkgo biloba. Several components in the Ginkgo extract inhibit platelet-activating factor (PAF) in the same way that aspirin does.317 Unlike aspirin, Ginkgo also contains numerous flavonoids that protect the weakened vessel from further damage by free radicals. In addition, it directly strengthens the collagen and elastin in the blood vessel walls.3'8 Other natural products have the same effect.
In fact, recent evidence has shown that a common herb can rescue injured brain cells even when taken hours after the injury occurs! Now let us begin our voyage into the wondrous land. Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life Section I Most of us are certain that we cannot change what has happened in the past, and many nutritionists in the past would tell their patients that all that they could do was to change their diets and hope for the best.

Hoodia fraud: Counterfeit hoodia gordonii weight loss pills dominate the market

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

In fact, the FDA will probably quote some of my own research amongst the reasons for doing this, and this would be a great shame because it would take away a useful herb from the general public and put it under the jurisdiction of an organization that I believe to be highly corrupt -- perhaps even more corrupt than the hoodia industry itself. Yet, at the same time, the FDA would be legally justified in regulating hoodia supplements to protect the consumers from all the adulterated products on the market right now.

And it's the same story with every vitamin, mineral and herb discredited in the popular press. Every single study that says "Vitamin E has no benefit" or "Saw palmetto is useless for your prostate" is a lie. It's all based on utterly dishonest science that's carefully constructed for the sole purpose of making nutrition look bad. And the press buys right into it, reporting information that's worse than merely useless; it's downright harmful.

Sure, if you could grow on your rooftop or in a kitchen herb garden, that's great, but what's the real solution? What's really amazing about our raw food right now is that you're bringing the awareness of light. You're bringing that entire fantastic interplay into your body; you're ingesting that all the time.

No natural food or herb has ever turned a patient into a compulsive gambler and caused them to lose $14 million. Except, perhaps, tapioca pudding, but that's only due to the sugar content (which makes children and adults alike commit senseless acts of indulgence). Squaretrade is less useful than expired pharmaceuticals Squaretrade is touted as a service that's supposed to "make online shopping smarter, safer and easier." It's also a place where online pharmacies can acquire some sort of semi-authoritative license number that's supposed to mean they're legitimate online pharmacies.

It has been shown that Ginkgo biloba not only protects brain cell membranes from damage, it also restores their youthful fluidity;482 much of this protection is linked to antioxidant flavonoids found in the herb.483 We know that with diseases such as Alzheimer's, connections between neurons— synapses—are most affected, and that millions of these synapses are lost long before there is a significant loss of brain cells. This is important, since synapses can be regenerated as long as neurons survive. Ginkgo biloba has been shown to be very protective of the brain's synapses.

Fennel is a wonderful, cooling, licorice-tasting herb. The ancient Greeks and Romans used fennel to treat migraine headaches. Fennel thins the blood. This allows obstructions - which place pressure on the blood vessels (headaches) - to flow on and be removed by the kidneys. Celery and apple are provided to maintain a sodium-potassium balance in the blood. The orange is added for its alkalinity and calcium. For Back Pain Juice: 1 head of dark-leaf lettuce 1 head of broccoli 2 apples Process all contents through a juicer. Drink once in the morning, once in the evening.
Silicon-residue foods include: bamboo sap/shoots, horsetail (an herb), hemp leaf, oats, cucumbers, lettuce, nopales (prickly-pear cactus leaves), okra, ripe bell peppers, radishes and tomatoes. Chewing green leaves helps clean and repair the teeth. I like to say in my seminars, "A few days of 'leafarianism' (eating leaves) naturally brushes the teeth and helps heal mineral deficiencies." Wadging like the primates is an excellent way to heal the mouth of pyorrhea, gum disease and cavities.
Skin For beautiful, healthy, glowing skin, eat plenty of foods rich in silicon (cucumbers, horsetail herb, nettles, lettuce, nopales, okra, radishes, etc.). Regularly eat the Silicon Salad described in Appendix C: Sunfood Recipes. Silicon-residue foods help to restore the elastic skin of youth. For vibrant skin, sulfur-residue foods should also be eaten. Sulfur, "the beauty mineral," provides smoothness and shine to the skin.

Glycerine can be purchased at any drugstore.) Strain, bottle, and store in a cool, dark place (the tincture does not need to be refrigerated). Tincture Dosages Karta Purkh feels that, unfortunately, tinctures are one of the most widely misunderstood forms of natural medicine. The primary misconception involves dosages. There is a very widespread impression (fostered largely by the dosages printed on the bottles) that you can put 3 drops of a tincture in some orange juice and get all better.

You don't have to be a victim Regardless of what the next outbreak looks like, there will be millions of people whose lives are protected because they are able to get the right herb, the right mineral, the right vitamin, the right strategy for surviving those viral epidemics. Flu shots won't save you. In fact, as you'll see here, flu shots may harm you by weakening your defense against the bird flu. It's a contentious idea, and hotly debated by the medical community.
