One that everybody should know about, and it really comes out of a long tradition, thousands of years in chinese medicine. It is known to kill SARS. Reishi mushroom is one of the great immune system supporting substances ever. Generally, if you're out in the forest and you find a wild reishi mushroom, you want to do a tea of it. You bring it home and dry it and make a tea out of it, and that's how you do it. That's really, really rare. What I recommend is going to a health food store and finding reishi mushroom extracts. They're perfectly prepared, highly digestible and work incredibly well. |

This may be why Asian ginseng is commonly used in traditional chinese medicine to treat diabetes. In animal research, it has been shown to increase the number of insulin receptors, and recent studies showed that even nondiabetics taking American ginseng before eating had less elevated blood sugar readings after they ate.
Siberian ginseng might be worth a try if you're fatigued, or try American ginseng if you're concerned about your blood sugar. Alternatively, you can get the more stimulating Panax type, also known as Chinese or Korean ginseng. |

Mike: These ancient healers have so much wisdom, I'm blown away when I go back and study the history of chinese medicine. They had things figured out 2,000 years ago that we still can't grasp today in the Western world.
Wolfe: I'm right with you on that one, Mike. It's so incredible where these guys were thousands of years ago.
Mike: It's truly amazing. Let's give listeners all the web addresses one more time, starting with your company, David.
Wolfe: Okay, I have two big web sites that I work with. One is thebestdayever.com. |

Under a system of health freedom, we would be able to choose natural treatments, including Ayurvedic medicine, Western herbal medicine, Traditional chinese medicine, mind-body medicine, energy medicine, or any other system of medicine that we believed would be helpful to us.

Mike: I even saw five element systems from chinese medicine. I'm very happy to see that as part of the coverage as well. It reminds me of some of the books of either Paul Pitchford, or Dr. Elson Haas, I think he has one called "Eating Healthy with the Seasons." Are you familiar with that book?
Joshua: Yes. Both of those authors are on the faculty of the school. You can go to other schools, and they cover certain material and the teachers are people who are the local nutrition experts. At our school, we bring in the best and the brightest of the teachers. |

Out of all the systems of medicine available in the world -- chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, Homeopathic medicine, herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, etc. -- Washington State just happens to choose the most lucrative and politically influential system of medicine to push onto patients at gunpoint: Western medicine, a system of medicine based almost entirely on profiteering, monopoly control, corruption, bribery, disease mongering, false claims and truly bad science.

The whole plant (rather than the fruits typically used in chinese medicine) was combined only with a small amount of poultry trachea (0.5%), decocted and made into tablets. With two grams of herb extract in each tablet, they were taken in the amount of 15 to 16 tablets daily (thus about 30 grams of crude herb equivalent) for 45 to 60 days. This method was claimed to cure 41 of 90 patients (45%), a rate comparable to that obtained with the complex formulas; another 44 patients had some degree of improvement. |
The continued use of surgical thyroidectomy and iodine-irradiation of the thyroid gland to remove thyroid activity in hyperthyroid patients may be deemed a last resort rather than a standard method of therapy if chinese medicine is incorporated into the healthcare system. This can reduce the health problems encountered by Graves' disease patients and also reduce the cost of life-long health care. |

Acupuncture/Acupressure
These therapies are based on the ancient chinese medicine concept that the body contains twelve main channels of acupuncture/acupressure points. Through these channels runs the energy referred to as qi (pronounced chee, also written as "chi"). Disease arises when one or more of these channels (meridians) are blocked. Using needles (acupuncture) or pressing on specific points (acupressure) will reestablish energy flow and balance in the body. There are hundreds of acupuncture/acupressure points. Each point has one or more indications. |

In the ancient Indian sciences of Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine, for example, subtle body and subtle food energy is termed prana. In chinese medicine it is called chi. It is known as hi in Japan, mana in Hawaii, tumo in Tibet, Odic force by Reichenbach, and orgone energy by Reich. The term prana, or Shekhi-nah energy, is associated with the vital life force in general and will be the main terms we will use.
The new paradigm is what this book is about. It states that food can no longer be seen only as calories, proteins, fat, or carbohydrates, or any material form. |

Indians are not the only people to have attributed beneficial health properties to turmeric. chinese medicine also uses turmeric to treat liver ailments, congestion, and bleeding. Turmeric was especially popular in the Okinawa region, in the Ryukyus Islands in southern Japan, where it was known as ucchin and frequently used in the time of the Ryukyuan kingdom, between the twelfth and seventeenth centuries, as medicine, spice, and colouring agent (for the takuan, a marinated radish). |

Ephedra is an herb that's been used in chinese medicine for more than 5,000 years. Thanks to its active alkaloids ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, Ephedra has proven itself extremely useful in treating a number of conditions, including asthma and hay fever. |
The liver is one of the key organs recognized by chinese medicine as being important for detoxification and the flow of energy throughout the body, and many Chinese herbs can promote and support healthy liver function. In fact, in almost every system of medicine, except Western medicine, you find herbs and plants to support the liver. |
Your health status can be effectively monitored through a variety of methods, but my favorite methods are pulse and tongue analysis (via Traditional chinese medicine) because they often provide far better information than expensive laboratory tests, yet they are completely noninvasive. It's no exaggeration to say that an experienced pulse analysis practitioner can tell you more about your health (and even the health of specific organs) than a full-blown MRI. Western doctors find this hard to believe, but they've never been trained in pulse analysis, so they have no idea of its capabilities. |

It was used safely and effectively in chinese medicine for literally thousands of years, with no toxicity problems whatsoever. But when some American companies got their hands on it, they isolated the herb (which Chinese doctors never do), amplified its active chemicals, and sold them to consumers who started taking them by the handful. Not surprisingly, a couple of weak-hearted overweight people suffered heart attacks and died.
From that isolated abuse of the herb, the FDA banned all ephedra. |

SATURATION POINT
"Information is the commodity of kings." —Anthony Robbins
We live in an era where all knowledge is available to all those who seek it out.
There is an abundance of useful information out there in the world. We are at the source. We can choose. We may tune into any frequency we like. We can learn anything we desire.
Learning is never what one expects. Every step of learning is a new task. |

One of the most interesting nutrition books I have read over the years is Sapoty Brook's Eco-Eating.
Sapoty Brook is a long-time raw-foodist who developed a remarkable chart based on the concept of balancing the dominant minerals in foods: Calcium (Ca), Phosphorus (P), Sodium (Na), and Potassium (K), for optimal performance.
The CaPNaK chart is one of the best nutritional tools to master. |

History
By the time Hippocrates began laying down the basic philosophy of Western medicine 2,500 years ago, chinese medicine was already widely accepted and practiced. A coherent Chinese history, in both politics and medicine, reaches back to some 3,000 years b.c.
The oldest record of herbal remedies dates to the beginning of the Han Dynasty (206 b.c. to 220 a.d.). Huang Di Nei Jing, or The Yellow Emperor s Inner Classic, now almost two thousand years old, is one of the oldest medical texts still in use today. Scholars believe that it was compiled over a period of centuries. |

If insurance covered vitamins, therapeutic touch, disease-fighting nutritional therapies, anti-cancer foods and supplements, therapies to reverse nervous disorders, acupuncture, chinese medicine, Reiki and energy healing, then virtually everyone would switch over and start using natural therapies. Why? Because they work. You don't have to spend the rest of your life in a hospital, wired to a feeding tube, paying $10,000 a day, with pain and suffering until your dying day, trapped in a system of medicine that looks at you as nothing more than a profit generating machine. |

Early on, chinese medicine included many exotic remedies to cure people afflicted by demons. Magical potions mixed from herbs, minerals, and animal parts were concocted to influence the spirits. Remedies were often linked with alchemy and astrology. Many were based on astrological observations or relied on numerology to provide answers to a patient's health problems.
By the time of the Han Dynasty, such primitive magic had given way to a new system of medicine, based on careful observation. But TCM was not separated completely from its ancient past. Consider the number five. |

In typical Western fashion, Ephedra was being put into pills in concentrated, isolated doses—a practice that would be laughed at in chinese medicine.
The active chemicals in ephedra are stimulants, and when taken in isolation without supporting herbs, they can temporarily elevate pulse and blood pressure. It was no surprise, then, that overweight people with preexisting heart problems began to experience heart attacks and strokes after overdosing on Ephedra pills. |

One of the most frequently diagnosed problems in chinese medicine is stuck or stagnant qi, indicating a blockage in the healthy flow of vital energy through the network of meridians. This disharmony is manifested by all the aches and pains that I've just described.
Utilizing the same knowledge of meridians and diagnostic methods used in all branches of TCM, acupressure treats these symptoms by manipulating the acupressure points that will ease pain and release stagnant qi. |

The healthiest people in society, in fact, are those who avoid doctors and instead heal themselves through nutrition, chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic care and so on. The least healthy people in society are those who take lots and lots of prescription drugs, who visit Western medical doctors, who ignore nutrition and who think health is just a matter of luck. These are the least healthy people in society. It's actually very clear, when you look around, who is healthy and who is not. It's very clear which medical theories are consistently true. |

FDA ignores benefits of Ephedra in chinese medicine formulas, which always use Ephedra synergistically with other supporting herbs.
<•* Ephedra was eventually linked to 155 deaths before being banned. In contrast, Vioxx, an arthritis pain drug, was linked to the deaths of 60,000 Americans and was allowed back onto the market by the FDA.
The FDA used its position of power to control the flow of information about Rezulin, to delay its removal from the market, and to deny any evidence of its harm, all against its stated mission of actually protecting the public. |
